My New Friend Craig

During the move to our new house my fleet of outdoor cooking devices took a beating.  I almost cried when my Big Green Egg fell over shattered.  I was furious when my gas grill was stolen from the backyard. I had a new house with an awesome backyard that was meant for grilling, but I was hobbling into the heart of BBQ season down two grills.  My BGE was on the mend, but I still needed a replacement for my gas grill.

While shopping for a new gas grill I developed a new addiction…Craigslist.  I peruse Craig’s pages almost daily searching for deals on grills, smokers and food trucks.  I don’t have the money for a food truck yet, but I can keep dreaming, right??  During a quick surf break at work I found the hidden gem I was looking for, a four burner BeefEater Grill!  I slipped away from my desk to make a quick call to the owner.  I was not the first caller, but I guess that guy got cold feet cause I got the grill.  I was pricing new BeefEaters and they were $800-$1,200, I got this baby for two bills

After some cleaning and converting it back to propane I was ready to get cooking.  The grill has a grate and griddle both made of heavy cast iron. The burners sit closer to the cooking surfaces, so this sucker gets hotter than a $2 pistol. This is not a grill I can walk away from or my meal will quickly be reduced to lumps of charcoal. Overall, it’s a quality grill that suits my needs perfectly.

Although I found a grill, I can’t quite quit Craigslist, I’m a hooked man.  During one of my recent searches I found a large Big Green Egg with table for $750.  It was such a sweet deal I almost bought it myself.  Be warned, there is a lot of crap posted on Craig’s List, but there are gems out there too, you just need to keep looking and be quick with your calls. So if you’re in the market for a new grill or smoker and your budget is a little tight, check with old Craig he’s probably got something for you.

  1. I really love the fact it has a griddle plate flat top! What a grate [sic] Craigslist find! Still sad about your humpty dumpty BGE.
