Saucey

I had originally planned on doing a post about ribs but they did not turn out quite right.  I cooked them a little too long and the end ribs were charred and a little dry.  The middle ribs were great but I can’t share a recipe that doesn’t work.  Conquering the elusive rib will just have to wait till next time. But here’s a gratuitous picture of the ribs and sausage we did eat.

All is not lost, I did put together an easy BBQ Sauce Recipe that you can easily whip up at home and it’s way better than any bottled stuff in the store.  Using a few simple ingredients you probably have in the pantry, a sauce pan and 20 minutes of your time, you can make a delicious and easy BBQ Sauce.

Easy BBQ Sauce
2 Cups of Ketchup
1/2 Cup of Apple Cider Vinegar
1/2 Cup of Honey
1/4 Cup of Molasses
1/4 Cup of Yellow Mustard
2-4 Tablespoons of AlbuKirky BBQ Rub

Mix all of the ingredients except the spice mix in a sauce pan and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring frequently until all the ingredients are blended. While the sauce is simmering add the seasoning blend. I used 4 tablespoons of seasoning because I like it spicy, best to add a tablespoon at a time and then taste.  If you don’t have any seasonings you can season the sauce to taste with salt, garlic powder, pepper and cayenne pepper or hot sauce.  Don’t get carried away adding the spices, add them slowly, stir them in and taste before adding more spices.  After the sauce has simmered for 15 – 20 minutes serve the sauce on the meat of your choice.  You can store the unused portion in the fridge, it will probably last forever since it’s basically ketchup with more vinegar, but I doubt it will be around long enough to spoil.

I’m disappointed the ribs did not turn out well as I expected.  Ever since the Great Pinkie Finger Debacle of 2009 ribs have been my BBQ nemesis.  But I have gumption and I’m not going to let the ungrateful rib kick my butt.  I will conquer the elusive meat and will share my victory with you all when it’s done.  But like I’ve said before the best thing about BBQ is you can eat your mistakes, most of the time.

It’s been said you learn more from failure than success.  In this case the sauce was a big success.  This is not my usual recipe but I wanted to make a sauce with molasses that complimented my seasoning mix.  So I hope you all enjoy the sauce recipe and let me know how it turns out if you make your own. Chow for now!

  1. I like the sauce, especially how easy it is. Looks like you are using some sort of local honey, which brings many health benefits from what I hear.

Too bad about the ribs. I've had some “learning opportunity” ribs myself 🙂
