Game On!

I got my game on this week, wild game meat that is.  Last weekend a friend of mine gave me some elk meat, a whole bunch of it.  For my attempt at cooking elk meat I decided to start with a burger, because it’s really hard to screw up a burger and it focuses on the flavor of the meat.
I started by seasoning seasoning the patties with my BBQ-Rub.  I was really pleased with the taste the seasoning added, just complimented the meat without being overpowering.

As much as I love grilled burgers, I decided to cook them on my disc  because I wanted to get a nice crunch sear on the outside of the meat and lock in all of the flavors and juices.  I didn’t want additional flavors from the smoke to cover up any flavors.

I finished the burger with a slice of american cheese, whole mustard, pickles and onion, just wanted to keep it simple.  In hindsight the american cheese was a little too much, should have used milder cheese. Here’s the final burger with some steak fries.

The burger was very tasty and Cheryl and I both enjoyed the flavor of the elk meat. Now that I know what to expect I can get started thinking up other recipes for rest of the meat.
